I had a great opportunity to meet with Jeffery Veen the other week. I met him at a conference and did something out of my comfort zone and asked to pay for coffee, while he gave me some tips on putting my career into great.

Being very humble he was more than happy to do so. I found myself in a hipster coffee place in Shoreditch. I hate coffee, but still ordered something he recomended while he had mint tea.

But Jeff left me some great advice and tips.

Mainly to think about where I want to work. “Do they value design?”.

Do I want to work somewhere with autonomy, then head for a start up, or do I want some collaboration, then head to an agency.

Prior to meeting he also told me to read “So good they can’t ignore you” by Cal Newport. It’s a very good book, and one that I recommend. It has given me a bit of a chance to answer some questions.

What am I good at? What skills do I have? What skills can I use to sell myself. Whats my mission? Whats makes me remarkable (as in how can people talk about me and my work). One thing I loved was that the book is totally opposed with finding your passion, I fell out of love with that zeitgeist a couple of years ago!

I hope to write up the process / findings sometime soon!
